Our solar system is the host to nine planets.  Each planet has a different story behind it, it’s moons, and just the different features shown through the features of the planet.

The solar system had a beginning, starting out with a cloud of lunar dust, which was gathered around a dense point, the sun and center of our solar system.  Each planet was then put together through a force of gravity pulling the matter towards it.

From this we got the whole solar system, along with all the asteroids, meteoroids, and comets that also orbit around the sun.

Sun: center of the Solar System    The sun is the only star in our solar system.  It is also the source of heat and energy to all the matter that orbits it.  It’s named from the Roman God of the Sun, Apollo.

Mercury: 1st planet from the Sun    Mercury is the closest planet to the sun, giving it the warmest range of temperatures.  It also is the fastest- moving planet around the Sun.  This planet is named from the Mythological God, Mercury, the messenger of the Gods.

Venus: 2nd planet from the Sun    Venus is the 2nd fastest orbit of the solar system and also known for the beauty of its acid-filled storm clouds.  It’s best spotted right at dawn or right at dusk, giving it the nicknames of the morning star, or the evening star.  This planet is named after the Roman Goddess of love and beauty, Venus.

Earth: 3rd planet from the Sun    Earth is the 3rd planet in orbit around the Sun.  It is at the moment, the only planet known to have held any living beings.  Terra Mater, is the Goddess that Earth is named from, meaning Mother Earth.

Mars: 4th planet from the Sun   Mars is the 4th planet from the Sun, and well-known for its bright red glow.  Also, it’s famous for signs of water, such as channels and canyons, and possibly under-ground water mines throughout the surface of the planet.  This planet is named for the god of war, Mars, for being the color of death and destruction.

Jupiter: 5th planet from the Sun    Jupier is the 5th orbiting planet, following right behind the asteroid belt.  This planet is known for it’s massive size.  If it had been a fraction bigger, it would have been the second star in our solar system.  It also has a famous red sport, which is a gigantic storm.  It’s named after the King of all mythological Gods, Jupiter.

Saturn: 6th planet from the Sun    Saturn is the 6th in orbit from the Sun, and well-known for it’s rings, made of solar debris.  It’s named from the Roman god, Saturn, God of Harvest.

Uranus: 7th planet from the Sun    Uranus is the 3rd to last planet orbiting the Sun and known for being completely sideways on it’s axis.  This is the reason why the rings of Uranus are vertical rather than horizontal.  Uranus is named after Jupiter’s grandfather.

Neptune: 8th planet from the Sun    The second to last planet is Neptune.  This is known for the bright blue haze of the brightness of the sea.  This is fitting because it was named after Neptune, God of the Sea.

Pluto: 9th planet from the Sun    Pluto is the last known planet in our solar system.   It is the coldest and darkest planet, except for when its orbit crosses with Neptune’s  orbit.  It’s named for the God of the Underworld, Pluto.
