Norma Jeane Mortenson (also known as Marilyn Monroe’s birth name) was born on June 1st, 1926 at Los Angeles General Hospital. Her mother was Gladys Baker, who claimed that Norma’s father was Stanley Clifford. He refused to speak to her. “All I really wanted from him was to let me call him father,” Marilyn said in an interview. She grew up without a father-figure, and spent a lot of her adolescence in orphanages due to her mother’s mental illness.

Norma Jeane shortly after changed her name to Marilyn Monroe. This was when she signed a contract with Twentieth-Century Fox, and her booming acting career was set off with a flare. She starred in thirty films, starting in the year 1947 to 1962 when she was found dead in her home in Los Angeles. She died in her sleep on August 2nd, 1962. Rumor has it that she intentionally overdosed on drugs, but no one is actually sure.

Her Love Life

Marilyn Monroe had three husbands throughout her life. All of which she divorced. At age sixteen, she had to choose between marriage or being sent back to an orphanage. She chose marriage, and was wedded to James Dougherty, her long-time neighbor on June 19th, 1942. She divorced James in September of 1946 due to the start of her career. Next, she married Joe DiMaggio, center fielder of the New York Yankees, in 1954. Again, she divorced in October of the same year. Finally, Marilyn married Arthur Miller on June 29th, 1956. They were divorced four and a half years later. Also, there are many current-day rumors about her having romantic affairs with President Kennedy and other well-known people, too.
