Point Guard

The point guard is the most vital part of a basketball game. A point guard leads all four other players on the court, by calling plays and telling them where they need to be. The point guard id normally the smallest player on the team and perhaps has the most specialized role of nay position on the team. A point guard is expected to run the offense be controlling the ball and making sure that the ball gets to the right players at the right time.

 

   

 

 

Shooting Guard

The shooting guard is in the most cases the best scorer on the team. This is a position that looks to score a lot and play hard defense. A shooting guard is a traditional position on a basketball team. They are often shorter, leaner, and quicker than forwards. Shooting guards often create a high number of shoots on offense and the guard the opponent’s best perimeter player on defense. Sometimes shooting guards bring up the ball from the court instead of the point guard.

 
   

 

 

Small Forward

The small forward is usually a great rebounder and defenseman. They are expected to finish at the rim, and sometimes asked to score from the outside. Small forwards are usually somewhat shorter, quicker, and leaner than power forwards and centers. Occasionally there are as tall as power forwards and centers. Small forwards are primarily responsible for scoring points and also often as secondary or tertiary rebounder behind the power forward and centers. Usually small forwards are between 6’6” and 6’9”.

 

   

 

 

Power Forward

The power forward is the one of the more skilled players on the court because it is looked at to score not only in the paint, but also to be able to step out and hit a mid- range jump shoot. Typically, a power forward is one of the larger players on the court. The power forward is not as tall as the center, but more muscular. They are usually expected to be aggressive when pursuing rebounds and scoring most of there points on the low post. The typical power forward is between 6’8” and 7’0”.

 

   

 

 

Center

The center is more than likely always the biggest guy on the floor. They must be able to defend the post area well, and dominate the paint on the offensive end. The center is normally the tallest player on the team, and they are generally preferred to have a great deal of muscle and body mass as well. The center uses his size to score and defend from a position close to the basket. A center is typically 6’10” or higher.
