In the 2005 NFL season, the Steelers led by 2nd year Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger would try to come back strong from losing in the Championship game against the New England Patriots the year before. In the previous 2004 season, Ben Roethlisberger promised Running Back Jerome Bettis that he’d win a Superbowl Championship for him if he’d hold on and not retire. They lost in the Championship game and after that Bettis would stay for the 2005 season as backup to starting running back Willie Parker. Steelers were going for their fifth Superbowl ring in the 2005 season, or, “One for the Thumb.”

Bill Cowher went through the 2005 season   ready to win the 5th Superbowl ring and also for Bettis in his hometown and final season. If the Steelers were to win the Superbowl, Ben Roethlisberger would have made history.
