Stand Out Players on Offense

The Three biggest standouts on offense are easily Hines Ward, Ben Roethlisberger, and Jerome Bettis. Hines Ward is probably one of the best wide receivers in the NFL; he has great hands and has arguably the best smile of any player in the NFL. But the thing that stands out the most about Hines is that he is not scared to put his head down and block for his team mates. He also caught sixty eight passes for nine hundred and thirty five yards and eleven touchdowns.  The second person one the list is Ben Roethlisberger. Ben was the rookie of the year last. He is a second year player out of Miami (Ohio). This year big Ben threw for two thousand two hundred and fifty yards on two hundred and fifty two attempts and seventeen touchdowns. The third player on this list is Jerome Bettis probably the most popular Steeler today and maybe ever. Bettis having a reduced role in the offense usually comes in during the short yardage plays to get a first down or a touch down. Jerome rumbled for three hundred and twenty seven on one hundred attempts. He had a total of six touch downs this year the most of any running back on the team. This may be Jerome’s last year in the NFL and he is most defiantly going to canton (Hall of Fame).   Those are my three best performers on the offense 05-06 season.

Upcoming Players on Offense

There are many young players on offense coming up big, weather it’s filling in for a hurt player or starting for the first time in their career. But I have chosen the two young players that have stepped up the most. The first player is Heath Miller; Heath is a rookie out of Virginia. In college he was voted the best tight end in college football in the 04-05 season. The Steelers made him there first round draft pick, the move has greatly paid off with Heath catching six touchy downs in his rookie campaign. The second player on my list is Willie Parker. Willie was and undrafted free agent out of North Carolina. Willie made the team last year in traing camp as the fourth string running back. This year he got his chance when Deuce Staley was troubled with injury and Jerome not being able to carry as much. Willie has earned his starter spot rushing for one thousand sixty seven yards on two hundred and twenty nine carries. Those are the best young players that have stepped up on offense.

Scheme on Offense

The scheme of the offense has been the same for as long as I can remember. The Steelers have always been a run first team and pass second. With second year coordinator Ken Whisenhunt it has been more of the same. Last year he brought the running game back from thirty first in the league to second in the league. In the playoffs though the emergence of the passing game has been a pleasant surprise for Steelers fans. That is the overall philosophy of the Steeler offense.
