Stand Out Players on Defense

There are many great players on defense for the Steelers but I have narrowed them down to the best three in my mind. The first person on my list is James Farrior; James led the team in tackles with one hundred and twelve and had one sack. James is a ninth year man out of Virginia. The Second player on my list is Joey Porter; Porter had fifty five tackles and a team high eleven sacks for the Steelers. Joey is a seventh year man out of Colorado State. The third player on my list is Troy Polamalu: Troy is a third year man out of USC. Troy had eighty one tackles and three sacks this year for the Steelers.

Upcoming Players on Defense

Many young players get there fist shot on a team by playing special teams which is what these two players did before coming starters. Larry Foote got a spot on the Steelers on kick coverage, but last year when the starting middle linebacker was hurt Foote was put in the starting role. Foote had ninety eight tackles and three sacks this year. Footer is a fourth year man out of Michigan. The second is Ike Taylor the third year man out of Louisiana Lafayette. Ike made was a fourth round draft pick for the Steelers. His main position his first two years was kick returner and earned his starting role this year in training camp. This year Ike had eighty one tackles and one interception. This year when playing the Cincinnati Bengals Ike shut down one of the premier wide outs in the NFL Chad Johnson by not letting him score one touchdown in three games against Cincinnati. Those are the youngest players on the Steelers that really stepped up this year to prove themselves.

Scheme on Defense

The scheme on defense is very similar to the scheme on offense, very physical and run stopping. The Steelers defense only surrendered one thousand two hundred and twenty six rushing yards, third in the NFL. The Steelers also had forty six sacks second in the NFL. The defensive back field for the Steelers also stepped up for the Steelers also came up big for the Steelers allowing only two thousand nine hundred and sixty five yards, sixth best in the NFL. That is the overall scheme of things on defense for the Steelers.
