His Life

Poe led a sad depressing life. Then again anyone who experienced as much death as he did would have a pretty sad life. His mother died when he was only three years old, and his grandmother died when he was about five. I’m not to sure if he ever met his father but if you really want to know you can look it up somewhere. He was always surrounded by death it seemed. His wife who happened to be his cousin which was very common back then died of tuberculoses shortly after they were married. After his wife died he plunged into darkness and became very depressed. The deaths of these people helped inspire ideas for many of his very famous poems. He also had a terrible disease. He took opium which was considered to be a cure back then which is known today as cocaine. Therefore he soon became addicted to the drug which made him even more sad, and depressed. Even though the thought of writing a poem about one of your loved family members dying  may seem a little strange, but almost all of his poems that where based off the deaths of his family members were some of his better more famous ones. He was almost never seen out of his house, and rarely spent time with other people. He never had any desire to re-marry either. He always wanted to be left alone in the darkness. You could say he was always in a constant state of mourning. This is what his life was like.
