Joe Paterno is one of the greatest college football coaches of all-time.  He has a record of 354-117-3.  His bowl record is 21-10-1.  He has the second most wins of all-time in Division 1 football.  He played quarterback at Brown under coach Rip Engle.  After he graduated, Rip Engle hired him as an assistant coach at Penn State.  He married Suzanne Pohland of Latrobe in 1962.  “JoePa” was named the head coach at Penn State on February 19, 1966.  He has led Penn State to five undefeated seasons.  He has won two national championships.  He won the first in 1982 against Georgia, and the second in 1986 against heavily favored Miami.  JoePa also cares deeply about academics.  Over the years he has donated over four million dollars and has had a library named after him.  He remains one of the most successful coaches in the history of college football.

 

Dick Anderson is the Offensive Line Coach at Penn State.  His hometown is Queens, New York.  He has 42 years of coaching experience.  He has spent his last 28 years at Penn State.  He received a Master’s in health and physical education from Penn State in 1965.  He has helped to improve the offensive line into a high-caliber unit this past year.

 

Tom Bradley is the Defensive Coordinator and Cornerback Coach.  He was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.  He has 27 years of coaching experience, all of which have been at Penn State.  He received a Master’s Degree in sports administration from Penn State.  In recent years, his defense has been outstanding.  He will most likely be the successor of Joe Paterno at Penn State.

 

Galen Hall is the Offensive Coordinator and he is in charge of running backs.  His hometown is Williamsburg, Pennsylvania.  He has 28 years of collegiate coaching experience.  This is his 2nd year at Penn State.  He has been a head coach at the collegiate level, in the XFL, AFL, and NFL Europe.  He has earned a coach of the year award 5 times in those leagues.  He graduated from Penn State in 1963.  he has employed a zone-blocking scheme that has helped the protection scheme.  He has transformed a plain vanilla offense into a high-powered explosive offense.

 

Larry Johnson is the Defensive Line Coach.  His hometown is Williamston, North Carolina.  He has been a coach for 10 years, all of those years have been at Penn State.  He graduated from Elizabeth City State in 1973.  Coach Johnson was also a very successful high school coach in the state of Maryland.  All of his three children have played sports at Penn State, including Larry Johnson Jr. Larry Jr. ran for a PSU record 2,087 yards in his senior year and was a 1st round draft pick by the Chiefs in 2002.  In recent years, his defensive line has been the strength of the defense.  He has coached such players as the #1 overall draft pick Courtney Brown.  He is also an extremely successful recruiter in Maryland, thanks to his high school coaching experience in the area.

 

Bill Kenney is in charge of offensive tackles and tight ends.  He grew up in Randolph, Massachusetts.  He has been a college coach for 21 years.  He is in his 18th year at Penn State.  He graduated from Norwich in 1982.  He coached an offensive line in 1994 that only gave up five sacks all season.  He did a good job of coaching the younger players this year.  Bill Kenney is one of the best motivators in college football.

  Mike McQueary is the wide receivers coach and the recruiting coordinator.  He’s a homegrown product from State College.  This is his 5th year of coaching, all of which have been at PSU.  He graduated from Penn State in 1997.  He also played quarterback at Penn State.  Now that he has some weapons at wide receiver, the unit has greatly improved.  As a recruiting coordinator, he has been one of the best in the business.  Last year he brought in the top player in the country and this year has signed a top 10 class

 

Brian Norwood is the safeties coach at Penn State.  He grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii and graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1988.  He has 16 years of college coaching experience.  He has spent his last 5 years at Penn State.  His son Jordan, was a key part of the offensive success.  The safeties he has coached have been an integral part of the defense.

 

Jay Paterno is the Quarterbacks Coach.  He is the son of head coach Joe Paterno.  He grew up in State College.  He graduated from Penn State in 1990.  He has 16 years of coaching experience, his last 11 at Penn State.  In recent years, he has been under fire from many fans for failing to develop former quarterback Zack Mills.  But this year, he did an excellent job turning Michael Robinson into an efficient passer. 

 

Ron Vanerlinden is a highly successful linebacker coach.  He is from Livonia, Michigam.  He has been a coach for 28 years.  This is his 5th year at Penn State.  He graduated from Albian College in 1978.  He has produced such great players as Chad Brown, Gino Capone, Deryck Toles, Dan Connor, and Paul Posluszny.  The linebackers are the strength of the defense.
