"Once again you really shouldn’t mumble, cause it’s starting to bum me out”                 -Willy Wonka

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is one of Tim Burton’s more recent films. It was rated PG for its quirky situations, actions and mild language. It was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. It also has 15 other nominations and 3 wins. The young Charlie Bucket wins a tour to the most amazing chocolate factory in the world, run by Willy Wonka.

It is based on the hit book by Roald Dahl. Charlie goes to the factory with his Grandpa Joe. There are four other winners on the tour. Slowly they all disappear through-out the tour. Augustus falls into the chocolate river. Violet turns into a plum after eating a piece of gum. Veruca falls into the garbage shoot. Mike is shrunk in the T.V. while Charlie is the only one who stays the entire tour. Wonka takes him up in the glass elevator and they go to Charlie’s house.

Charlie then decides not to move into the factory with Mr. Wonka. A few months later Wonka approaches him again. They go to Dr. Wonka’s house. Charlie is then persuaded to move into the factory only if his family can go with him. They lived happily ever after.

A minor goof in the movie is when Charlie goes up to Wonka near the end of the movie, the director and cameraman are reflected in Wonka’s sunglasses.

Screen-writer John August had never seen the original Willy Wonka, when asked by Burton to write the script. After finishing it he watched the original only to be surprised at how much darker the “family” film was to his own.
