In DDR, you can modify the way the arrows move when you play. People call these “Mods”. Mods can make the arrows move faster, scroll backwards, turn their direction, etc.
Also, with mods, you can move the step zone to the bottom. You can also make it so that the jumps or freeze arrows or 1/8 steps are changed. If you were to max combo the song with one of these mods on, you can get a B*. A B* is simply when you have an A* or above, except with certain arrows changed to make things easier.

Cool Steps

In DDR, having arrows only on the beat seemed to make the levels too simple. The creators decided to make it so that there were more arrows that made the game more difficult. These are 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, and 1/64 arrows. 1/8 arrows are used in standard and above most of the time. But, in some songs, the Light difficulty will have 1/8 steps. 1/16 and above arrows are usually in Heavy and Challenge difficulties. In slower songs, more 1/16 and 1/32 and 1/64 steps are used. The reason for this is because you can move faster when you are playing on a slow song. For example, a song at 200 BPM (beats per minute) can have an arrow, a 1/8 arrow and a normal arrow, but at 100 BPM that could be the same as 1/8 then 1/16 then 1/8. Basically, the speed of the songs affects how the arrows are grouped.

ITG has a grading scale which greatly differs from DDR’s original grading scale. There are F’s, D’s, C’s, B’s, A’s, S’s, 1, 2, 3, and 4 stars. There are probably more than listed here.

Along with the new grading scale, there are also different grades you can get for the arrows.

Just click on to the "In The Groove" page for more information.

Grading Scale for DDR EXTREME2:

There is a grading scale for DDR when you finish a song. Here is the grading scale, and how you can get each grade:

E – Achieved when the Dance Meter falls to Zero, or when the “START” button is held until you fail.

D – When you do pretty bad on a song, but still make it.

C – When you do alright on a song.

B – When you do an acceptable job on a song.

A – When you do very well on a song, high combos and seldom BOO’s are required to get this grade.

A* - When you max combo the song, but when the ratio of perfects to greats is almost half greats and half perfects.

AA* - When you max combo the song, and the ratio of Perfects to Greats is about 90% perfects and 10% greats.

AAA* - When you max combo the song and ALL of the arrows are Perfects.*

AAAA* - Very hard to get. You need to get ALL MARVELLOUSES on a song.
Obviously, it is only available on “Advanced Mode”.*

* A little star that indicates that you max comboed the song. B*’s can be required. Check out the “More DDR!” page for info.

*Marvellouses can be obtained in Free Play mode. It can be found under Options, but the default option is not to show marvellouses.
