There are many techniques and movements in ballet. There are five positions in ballet. In first position, your heels are touching with your toes to the side. The arms are in front of you in an oval shape.

In second position, your feet are farther apart than in first position. The arms in second position are open wide and rounded.

In third position, one foot is halfway in front of the other. One arm is curved in front and the other arm is out to the side.

In fourth position, the feet are crossed and open with one foot exactly in front of the other. The one arm is curved above the head and the other arm is to the side.

In fifth position, the feet are crossed and touching and both arms are in an oval shape above your head.

Another step in ballet is the Arabesque. An arabesque is when you have your leg behind you and lifted. Arabesques are used in many performances.

Another step is called the developpe. A developpe is a fundamental adagio step. A developpe is when your leg is to your side and is lifted.

Another common step in ballet is a battement tendu jete. In this step your leg is only a few inches of the ground.

A common step in ballet is a releve. This movement is to help develop strength in your legs and feet. In a releve you slowly lift both your heels off the floor at the same time.
