With the large obsession of the boy band craze, ABC came up with a brilliant idea- to make a show that will put together their very own boy bad.

Making the Band was the idea from the mind of Lou Pearlman, the former manager of the Backstreet Boys and *N Sync. The show was an immediate hit for ABC, and was helpful to the band because it created fans for the band before it even formed.

The program started with 1,800 applicants, but got narrowed down to twenty-five, then eight, then the final five that was in the band. The final five consisted of Ashley Parker Angel, Erik-Michael Estrada, Trevor Penick, Jacob Underwood, and Ikaika Kahoano, who had to leave for personal reasons. He was replaced by Dan Miller. The group released their first album, titled Liquid Dreams, in 2001. The album didn't seem to be quite as popular as the show was.

O-Town continued to do as the other boy bands did- which was tour, have many performances, and create a second album, which O-Town titled O2.

O-Town enjoyed only mild success. Their first album sold more than two million copies, but their popularity soon wore off.

Sales on their second album turned out to be lower than expected and hoped, so their record label was dropped.

The band believes that the poor sales were due to internet downloading such as Napster and Kazaa. As soon as Napster and Kazaa cam out, sales went down and the bad has blamed it on this illegal form of downloading.
