The Backstreet Boys are a boy band that started in 1994. They were picked up by Mercury Records, but were immediately dropped. They were turned down by ten record labels because none of them had thought that the whole “boy band” idea would become popular. However, one record label believed that they could make it and become popular, and that was Jive Records.

This band has five guys in it including Nick Carter, Brian Littrel, AJ McLean, Howie Dorough, and Kevin Richardson.

When the Backstreet Boys released their first single “We’ve Got It Goin’ On”, it wasn’t as popular as expected- reaching only 69 on the charts. They wanted more people to know about them.

The band was lucky enough to be able to release their single in Europe, and became extremely popular over there. Everyone knew right there what had to be done. The Boys would start in Europe, and American audiences would eventually catch on.

The boys toured all around the world- selling millions of copies- and two years later, they finally felt comfortable enough to go home and try to become popular in America.

In the summer of 1997, just after hitting the top of Canada’s charts, their single “Quit Playin’ Games with My Hear” was heard by American audiences. Before they knew it, Backstreet Boys were just as popular in their home country as they were in Europe.

Backstreet Boys released two other albums- Millennium, which was a total hit, and The Hits, which was there main hits combined onto one album. The group split up without much notice to their fans, but got back together in 2005, thanks to Oprah. The Backstreet Boys brought a disk-supporting tour to Chicago on August 19 2005, and fans seem to like it. They have also released another album, titled "Never Gone"
