Timothy William Burton was born in Burbank, California on August 25, 1958. He was known as strange in his young years, because he was constantly "feeding on a steady diet of horror and science fiction."-he reffered to himself and considered by others around him. He watched things like "The Brain that Wouldn't Die", as a child on Saturday afternoon T.V. "There's a guy with his arm ripped off and blood smeared all over the wall...I never saw it as negative," he says, "I find that stuff, when it's not rooted in reality, to be cathartic."

Young Burton saw himself more as an artist than a filmmaker. He didn't realize this until he spent time at California Institute of the Arts and was given an opportunity that would change his life. Disney took one look at his artwork, and hired him. They knew that if they didn't hire him, someone else would soon. His first works for Disney was 2 short films called "Vincent" (1982) and "Frankenweenie" (1984). A year later, he worked on "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" (1985), which recieved poor reviews, but made a good deal of money. This success gave Tim Burton a little more freedom in his selection of screenplays. He finally opted fdor a new theme in "Bettlejuice," (1988) which was a little more his style. It was about a dead couple disturbed in the haunting of their house by a snobbish city family intent on redecorating."-movie reviews.
Later in 1990, Tim Burton made the movie "Edward Scissorhands." It was one of his first well-received films. Johnny Depp stars as Edward Scissorhands. Burton says that that strange main character is symbolically, himself. Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" was made in 1993. It was a great success. Burton didn't direct it, but he was responsible for the original concept and general design of the film.
In 1999, Tim reunited with Depp once again in Sleepy Hollow. Johnny Depp plays Ichabod Crane. Crane is sent to the hamlet of Sleepy Hollow to investigate 3 murders in which the victims were decapitated and taken.
Burton has taken some risks, made some movies, discovered who he was, and changed the way movies are made. He may be an inspiration to some, and a "least favorite movie maker" to others. But no matter what you think, Timothy William Burton will always be different from the rest.
