Shichi-go-san festival- for children, ages 7,5, and 3-- Shinto lucky numbers

Oon Festival- August 13-16, A Buddhist festival in honor of the ancestors

Sports Day- October 10, commemorates the Olympic games held in Tokyo in 1964  

Girl's Day- March 3, girls set out dolls and offer food and sake to them

 
                        Kimono

Kimonos are traditional Japanese dress. They are hard to put on and the wearer usually adorns herself with flowers, layers of underclothes, jewelry, intricate bows, and ties wears an obi (sash) around the waist.

              More Random Facts

Samurai lived and died by a strict code of honor. They were warlords of Kamakura (a city). For nearly 150 years Japan was governed by them.

Shoguns were military rulers. The first shogun was Yorimoto.

On August 6 in 1945, a U.S. Air Force plane dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Now, there is a peace memorial there.

The main religion in Japan is a mixed form of Buddism and Shindoism.
