CHARACTER GENERATOR

Oblivion could very well amaze you before you even begin with an extensive character generation unequaled in any console game to date.  After choosing from 10 different races such as orcs, elves, Kajiit, Bretons…etc. the player can customize the hero’s miniscule facial details using a series of sliders.  These tools don’t merely cycle you through a selection of pre-set options.  The entire system is actually a simplified version of the methods the developers used to create game’s NPC’s.  This means even the slightest detail can be adjusted.  It would be easy to spend hours alone on the character generator alone.

THE BEGINNING

After creating your character you are ready to begin the journey.  At the beginning your hero wakes up in the darkness of the Imperial Prison, there’s a fellow inmate who constantly shouts various racial phrases directed towards you.  The insults depend on what type of character you have made.  Soon after, an unexpected guest approaches your cell: the Emperor himself Uriel Septim, accompanied by his bodyguards.  They open your cell door and walk inside, you then find out that your cell is actually a secret escape route out of the castle, which the Emperor needed to use to evade pursuing assassins.  You then follow the Emperor through the forgotten caves underneath the Imperial City.  The Emperor and his bodyguards pull away from you.  So, on your way to catch up you have to kill various enemies, such as goblins, sewer rats, and the undead.  Eventually, you catch up to the Emperor, the assassins are closing in and time is running out.  Before being slaughtered, Septim gives you a special amulet, charging you to seeing it to safety and to deliver it to a man named Jauffre at Waynon Priory.  Leaving the caves with a mysterious amulet and the sound of the Emperor’s screams, you emerge into the world…you adventure begins.
