Snoopy is a character with many dreams. He sits atop his doghouse dreaming that he overcomes every endeavor, in the mind of his alter-ego, “Joe Cool”. Snoopy is basically the goof of the gang and can get a laugh out of everyone. He never speaks, but conveys everything through facial expressions and thought balloons. Charles Schulz was inspired by his childhood pet dog Spike to create Snoopy.

Charlie Brown was based off of Charles Schulz that he met in art class. Charlie Brown was born basically a loser. He never won anything and he always seems to put himself down. With his yellow shirt with a zig-zag on it, Charlie Brown is instantly noticeable. You can always see him heading towards Lucy’s psychiatric ward booth and telling her his problems.

Woodstock is the smallest of the Peanuts characters, but he has a gigantic presence for such a small bird. He is the perfect companion for Snoopy because Woodstock is up to anything Snoopy wants to do. Because he is so small, Woodstock is a bit insecure around big moving objects. He is the only baseball player who gets an automatic walk if the ball rolls over him. He talks in “bird speech” and uses exclamation points to express different emotions.

Sally is Charlie Brown’s little sister. She always looks for the easy way out, especially in school, where her view of life imitates much of the frustration and confusion kids go through. She has a schoolgirl crush on Linus, her “Babboo”. Even though she is obsessed with Linus, she will never win his heart over.

Lucy Van Pelt is the most bossy of the gang. She yells a lot and is very loud. Her smiles are motives and rarely ever true. She is a know-it-all who will give you advice whether you are seeking it or not. She has a major crush on the piano-playing Schroeder, who would prefer Beethoven any day. Lucy loves receiving compliments, and if she is paying one-or even smiling-she is up to no good.

Linus Van Pelt inspired the term “security blanket” with his classic pose of holding his blanket while sucking his thumb. He is very smart and always talks about philosophical relations and solutions to problems. Lucy is his big sister in which he suffers abuse from. Sally gives him unwanted attention because she has a crush on him.

Even though Peppermint Patty is a pro on the baseball diamond, she is not so great in the classroom, being a D-minus student. She is a very big tomboy who lacks in common sense, but makes up for it with her sincerity. She is the only one who calls Charlie Brown “Chuck”. She is also the only one who hasn’t noticed that the baseball player playing shortstop is actually a dog, Snoopy.

Marcie is Peppermint Patty’s best friend. She has always called he “Sir”, since the moment they met. Even though they have nothing in common, their friendship is very genuine. Marcie is the smartest of the Peanuts Gang, however, the most naïve. Even though she is not good at sports, the allow her to be on the baseball team. Marcie and Peppermint Patty have a secret crush on Charlie Brown that no one knows about.

Schroeder is an idolizer of Beethoven. He is the one who brought classical music into the Peanuts comic strips. Schroeder gets very frustrated when Woodstock tries to turn his grand piano into a playground, and when Lucy tries to get him to fall in love with her. Schroeder is most often seen playing his grand piano.

Franklin met Charlie Brown at the beach one day in 1968. Even though they went to different schools, Franklin was invited to play on the baseball team, and later sat in front of Peppermint Patty in school. He is kind and knows everything there is to know about the Old Testament. Many readers in 1968 thought that since Franklin had darker skin, he had some political meaning behind him. Later, however, readers realized that he was just another character.

Pigpen is so dirty that a cloud of dust sprinkles dirt on everything he comes in contact with. He loves being dirty. For him, it is a fact of life to be dirty. He doesn't try to explain it, hide it, or fight why he is so dirty. Because of his appearance, Pigpen was featured on a series of commercials in 1993 for Regina Vacuum Cleaners, which mixed animation with live action.

Rerun Van Pelt is often mistaken for Linus, who is Rerun's older brother. He can always be recognized in his trademark overalls. He is more skeptical than his brother, harder to convince, and can easily get out of Lucy's smart talk. Rerun is always wishing for a dog of his own, but his parents won't let him get one. So, he tries to "borrow" Snoopy from Charlie Brown. Snoopy ignores Rerun unless he brings cookies as a bribe.
