In the 1800's they were made of leather and aluminum. In the 1900's and still today shin guards are made of foam and hard plastic. Sometimes they have cloth on them for extra protection. Shin guards are very useful to the game of soccer.

Soccer spikes are also called boots. They are also called boots because back in the day they wore boots with spikes. They are called boots because they are boots and look like cowboy boots. They were made of leather. Now these days the most expensive pair of spikes is kangaroo leather, then calf leather, then synthetic material.

The soccer uniform is shorts, shirts, and socks. The socks come up to your knees and cover your shin guards. The shorts are short so you can knees easier and can run faster. The shirts are light weight and different colors so the referees can tell the difference between the two teams.

There are ten players plus a goalie on the field at a time. The goalie is the only player on the field that can use his hands. He can only use his hands within a certain area. There are different positions too. They are offence, defense, and midfield.

Offence is the position in soccer when you try to score. The offence is always in motion. They never stop running and making plays. The main idea for the offence is to try to get the ball past the goalie and score for a goal. Midfield also tries to score.

Defense is the position in soccer where the players help the goalie stop players from scoring. The defense is a position needing speed and intelligents. Midfield also helps out on defense.
