Whether you’re dancing or cheerleading, attitude counts.  Take two dancers or cheerleaders with exactly the same physical skills.  One has a positive attitude, and one has a negative attitude.  Which one do you think will go further?

Dancers work hard on developing a positive attitude toward themselves, their bodies, and dancing as an art form.  Martha Graham, the world-famous dancer and choreographer, said “Nobody cares if you can’t dance well. Just get up and dance.  Great dancers are great because of their passion.”

That’s a good quote for cheerleaders to remember, particularly while starting out.  Cheerleading is a complicated mix of vocal and physical skills.  Cheerleading includes elements of not only dance, but also gymnastics, singing, and acting.  Cheerleading have to be able to do all the right moves in just the right ways.  They have to cheer while they’re doing them, and they have to have the proper stage presence while moving their bodies.

If that sounds like a lot to remember, well, it is.  So you have to work on developing your physical and vocal skills that make a good cheerleader, remember Martha Graham’s quote.
