The Wizard of Oz is about a girl who wants to run away to save her dog, when a huge twister carries her house with her still in it, over the rainbow and into a magical land. Once she gets there, she realizes she wants to go home. In order to get there, she must travel her way to Emerald City to see the great and powerful Oz. She must be careful, because what lies ahead of her are many obstacles from Dorothy’s enemy the Wicked Witch of the West. Will Dorothy ever find her way home?

The Wizard of Oz was written in1899 and then published in 1900. The musical was first performed as an on stage musical in 1902-03 in Chicago and New York. It premiered at the Grand Opera House in Chicago on June 16, 1902. The film was made in 1939. It was directed by Victor Fleming. The user rating is 8.3/10 which is equal to 42,708 votes.

The main character of this story is Dorothy Gale who was played by Judy Garland who was born on June 22, 1922. She died June 22, 1969 on Chelsea, London, England. Dorothy is a girl who lives on a farm in Kansas where a cyclone and a mean neighbor change everything.

The Wicked Witch of the West is played by Margaret Hamilton who was born on December 9 ,1902. She died May 16, 1985 in Salisbury, Connecticut. In the beginning of the story, Margaret Hamilton plays a mean neighbor that wants to put Dorothy’s dog to sleep, because he was chasing her cat and biting her in the leg. A little later on in the story, she is the Wicked Witch of the West who accuses Dorothy of killing her sister.

The Cowardly Lion was played by Bert Lahr who was born on August 13, 1895. He died December 4, 1967. The Tinman was played by Jack Haley who was born on August 10, 1898. He died June 6, 1979. The Scarecrow was played Ray Bolger who was born on January 10, 1904. He died January 15, 1987. Toto was played by Terry who was born in 1933 and died in 1944.

      These four funfilled friends meet Dorothy on their way to Emerald City. The cowardly Lion needs courage, the Scarecrow wants a brain and the Tinman wants heart.
