Maria is played by Julie Andrews who was born on October 1, 1935 in Surrey, England. Maria has always wanted to be a nun since she was a little girl. Until she was old enough to become one, she finds out that the job was harder than it looks. Since Maria always finds herself in trouble, she is sent to Captain Von Trapp, a retired naval captain with seven children. Captain Von Trapp is played by Christopher Plummer who was born on December 13, 1929 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Captain Baron Von Trapp is a widower who takes care of his seven children. He is a retired captain that has a problem with his children. This is when Maria comes in. Maria finds out that the children act rowdy, because all they need is a little love. Maria taught them how to sing and dance which shows the captain what he has been missing. Maria and the captain fall madly in love and get married. All of this is interrupted when the German rulers want the captain back.
