The Wonderful World of Dogs!

The Great Dane is one of the biggest dog breeds in the world. The male dog grows to be thirty inches tall. The female only grows to be two inches shorter at twenty-eight inches. So, if you plan on getting one, be sure you have the room for it!

Despite its size, the Great Dane is very gentle. However, because of its size, early training is essential. You can also train it to be aggressive. Only give it this kind of training if you want it to be a guard dog.

The Great Dane is a big dog, so it needs big toys. Balls, large bones, and big squeaky toys are best. If it is a guard dog, it needs plenty of exercise. Like all dogs, no exercise isn’t good, and will cause problems.

When they are born and until they are eighteen months old, Great Danes should be fed two to three times a day. When they are older, only feed them once a day. Remember, over-feeding causes obesity, and will cause problems throughout its life.

When Great Dane puppies are born, they need to be nursed right away. They can be weaned from their mother at eight weeks old. This is also a good time to take them home. When you do, make sure they are happy and comfortable.

Since the Great Dane is a larger breed, it does not live as long. It is considered a senor sooner than most dogs. This happens when it is seven years old. By feeding and taking care of it correctly though, you can be sure it will live longer.
