The Beatles

On October 9, 1940 in Liverpool, England, John Winston Lennon, a name that would be mentioned in more text than any other music icon, was born. He was raised by his mom and his Aunt Mimi. His mom taught him the banjo, and later, the guitar. Tragically, she was killed buy an intoxicated, off-duty police officer in 1958. After that, music, became a major part of his life. He then started a group called the Quarry Men, in the 60’s.

This band would soon change its name to The Beatles. Lennon, along with McCartney, continued to compose hit after hit. The duo would eventually be inducted into the songwriter’s hall of fame. One day, John made a comment that might have destroyed the Beatles, and him.

He said the Beatles were “bigger than Jesus”. The Beatles quit touring soon after that. John met Yoko Ono later on, and the two married. Together, they held many anti Vietnam protests. The couple quickly had a son. Yoko is said to be the main reason the Beatles spilt up. The two continued to tour, and release albums, but nothing was ever equal to the success of the Beatles.

On December 8, 1980, a mentally ill man asked John to sign an autograph, and John obliged. Later that day, the same man shot him 5 times at close range. Then the man stood around and waited for the police to arrest him. On December 14 of the same year, a world wide, ten minute silent vigil was held in remembrance of him. His music is still very popular, and he continues to live on...
