If Ferrets could talk they would say “everything on the floor is mine!” “Ooh what’s this??” “Watch me, watch me!” Ferrets are mammals that are full of energy. Kind of like a puppy, but for most of their lives. They balance their crazy lives with a long, deep sleep. Ferrets are extremely smart (not wise, smart) and will quickly learn what they can get away with.

Simple Info- Male Ferrets are called Hobs and female Ferrets are called Jills. A group of ferrets are called a Business. Jills can weigh from 1 ½ pounds to 3 pounds. Hobs cam weigh from 2 1/2 pounds to 5 pounds. Ferrets live from 6-10 years. Most Ferrets don’t make much noise but if they do it sounds like this “dook dook dook”.

Appearance- Ferrets come in many different colors. There are browns, light browns, dark browns, whites, grays, butterscotch, black, albino, and mixes of all of these colors. Some Ferrets get winter coats too.

Mask- Colored fur shaped like a “V” over the Ferrets face.

Scruff- The back of the Ferrets neck. Lots of extra skin a good place for grabbing them if the need punished.

Snout- the Ferrets noise and mouth.

Back- the Ferrets back. Ferrets are very flexible, but they still have a back bone.

Shoulder- You can’t really see it but its there.

Claws- the Ferrets claws. You should keep them cut.

Tail- The ferret’s long tail.

Ferret Company- ferrets love to socialize. Some ferrets will follow you around your house, others will play with other Ferrets, and some just live to eat, play, and sleep. So it is a good idea to buy another ferret, because then when you leave the house or are away for several days, they have someone to play with. It is also fun to watch them play together.

Behavior- ferrets will steal things and hide them, no matter what you do. It is best to find where they hide the stuff.

The Ferret dance of joy. Most people think when a ferret jumps around off the wall, on to couches, mouths open, and with no regard for where they are going. They think he is attacking. but they are really saying “I am so happy! Look!” It is really quite funny to watch.

       Ferrets will sleep most of the day; actually it’s about 70%. If you leave your ferret out to long without playing playing with her, she will go find somewhere hard to get to (like in a couch) and go to sleep.

The Poop Blues- Ferrets can be trained to use a litter box. Their litter box should be located away form where they sleep and in a corner. Because Ferrets like to be clean. Ferrets will also poop a lot because of their high metabolism. They will have accidents to, like if they are out for a long time and need to go they will find a quiet corner and go.
