Surfing
was invented approximately three to five thousand years ago in Polynesia
by island natives. They used long wooden boards, which is what long
boards are based off of. This style is very smooth and mellow. It is the
best way for beginners to learn to surf. |

Short board surfing is very fast and technical. There are more tricks
for short boarding than any other type of surfing. The turns are quick
and sharp, and the airs are insanely high. Short boarding is also the
most common in the competition world. |

Tow-in surfing is when you ride a wave that is too big to paddle into by
towing on the back of a jet ski to gain speed before you drop in. It is
also the newest style of salt water surfing. |
