Defence/Special Teams

 

Ben Roethlisberger is the Steelers starting quarterback. He is #7 and his nickname is Big Ben. He was the Rookie of the Year last year. Big Ben won his first 15 games he played. He was drafted in the first round 2004 and played at Miami (OH).

 

 

Willie Parker is the Steelers starting running back and is #39. They call him Fast Willie, which is his nickname. He has only 1-year experience and didn't even start in college. Parker went to North Carolina and wasn't drafted. So the Steelers acquired him through signing him through free agency after last year's draft.

 

 

Hines Ward starts for the Steelers at wide receiver and is #86. Ward is one of the best blockers at wide receiver in the NFL. He went to the Probowl last year. He has played in the NFL for 8 years and is amazing. Ward also has the most receptions as a Steeler which he passed John Stallworth on 11/13/05. Last year Hines Ward caught over a thousand yards and 4 touchdowns.

 

 

Heath Miller is the Steelers starting tight end at #83 and is a rookie. He was drafted in the first round (2005) and went to Virginia. At Virginia he broke records like most td's for a tight end at Virginia. He is an adequate blocker and the Steelers drafted him to open up the Steelers passing game. Heath is also very tall at 6-5 to make him a great passing target.

 

 

Alan Faneca is a starting guard for the Steelers with the number 66. He has gone to the Probowl four consecutive years (2001-2004). A two-time all pro selection in (2001-2002). He also was a first team All-American at LSU in 1997. This shows he is easily one of the leagues best lineman.

 

 

Ken Whisenhunt is the Steelers offensive coordinator. He has been a coach for 9 years and has been the Steelers offensive coordinator since last year. The Steelers offence in 2004 was ranked 16th and 2nd in rushing. In 2001 he was the tight end coach for the Steelers 2000-Jets tight end coach 1999-special team coach for Browns 1997- tight end coach for Ravens.

 

 

 

There are also other rookies on offence other than Heath Miller. They had drafted Trai Essex, Fred Gibson now in Miami, Chris Kemoeatu, and Noah Herron the Steelers draft picks on offence. Trai Essex was drafted the highest of all of them in the 3rd round. He is a tackle and has even played some this season. Fred Gibson is gone to Miami and is a wide receiver. Chris is a guard and Noah is a running back.
