Pittsburgh Steelers

 

 

            In a city called Pittsburgh, there are the Pittsburgh Steelers. You’ve probably heard of them. They are a very well known team. In fact, they weren’t really called the Steelers. They were known as the Pittsburgh Pirates after the founder, Art Rooney. This team started off on a lucky bet at Saratoga when Art Rooney bet on a horse race for $2,500. He then started a franchise. In 1941, Rooney brought a new coach named Bert Bell who named the team the Steelers after the city’s major industry. From 1930 to 1970, the Steelers floundered near the bottom of the National Football League. Around 1970’s, they had a new coach named Chuck Noll who began changing the Steelers into a better team. The Pittsburgh Steelers began to receive stars player like Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Jack Lambert, and Joe Greene. Since then, the Steelers have been an improving team in the NFL.
