Baseball originally started in 1840. Alexander Cartwright and Daniel Adams were the first people to make the first set of rules. 1869, professional baseball started. The first “professional” baseball team was called the Cincinnati Red Stockings. That team played other teams that weren’t professional. Two years later, the National Association joined a few more teams. The pros were born.

The baseball field was simple. It was just four bases around a square/diamond field, with one base designated as “home plate”. The outfield was just grass that took the same shape as the infield. The outfield back then was much deeper than it was today, and that combined with the baseball being made out of materials that didn’t go very far, it was almost impossible to hit a home run in the 1800’s through the 1900’s.

The baseball started as just a leather covering around a core made out of a simple cloth. It was much harder to get a hit because of the absence of cork.

The modern baseball Is much different than the ones used in 1841. It uses cork in the center, then different layers of wool, then leather mixed with plastic for the covering. It obviously goes much further than the ones used today.
Early uniforms were much heavier and more baggy than the ones today. As a result, they were less comfortable and made it harder to run. Today's uniforms are made out of polyester and are more comfortable.
Baseball gloves started in 1845 because of cathers having to catch the pitcher's pitches over and over again. Pretty soon, they were used be first basemen as well. And a few years after that, every position was using them. Basebakll gloves just started as two pieces of leather sewn together. Then, people added a web to help catch the ball.
Baseball bats started as just a stick. They progressed over time, and became a handle made for hands , and then the fat part of the bat that was made for hitting the ball. Now there are aluminum bats which make the ball go further.
