Welcome to Gettysburg

The Gettysburg war was very tragic.  In the state of Pennsylvania and New York, 1,401 soldiers died.  There were 97,000 Union soldiers and 75,000 Confederate soldiers.  At the end of the three day battle, 23,000 Union and 28,000 Confederate soldiers had perished.

There are five versions of the Gettysburg Address.  The Nicolay First Draft, The Hay Draft, The Everett copy and The Bancroft, Bliss version.

The Nicolay First Draft is the oldest surviving draft of the Gettysburg Address.  It was given by Lincoln to his personal assistant John Nicolay.  The Wills Draft is the original version.  The Hay Draft, Lincoln gave it to John Italy.  The Everett copy, a version requested by Edward Everett.  The Bancroft Bliss version written by Lincoln on special paper to be reproduced by historian George Bancroft.  The Gettysburg Address was delivered by President Abraham Lincoln on November 19, 1863, at the dedication of the Soldier’s National Cemetery in Gettysburg.

The Pennsylvania Monument is a dedication to all the Union Solders that fought for the preservation of the Union on July 1, 2, & 3, 1863.  The names and states of all that died are listed on the memorial.
