Did you know that the Labrador Retriever was found in Newfoundland, and not it’s neighboring island Labrador. It was the smallest of the two breeds that helped fishermen. The Labradors had to be sturdy, healthy, strong, and tolerant enough to withstand frigid water that they would have to swim through. The lab also had to help assist people living and working in Newfoundland. They had to haul wood, pull carts, retrieve fish from fishing nets, and help pull nets out of water. These dogs really had to be strong.
