A white (or very light), but not (A person with congenital albinism: white hair and milky skin; eyes are usually pink) version of the the German Shepherd has also always occurred, but hasn't been recognized as a valid color. However, the white German Shepherd has been recognized by some organizations under the name white shepherd dog.

The German shepherd symbolizes the great protector, the perfect family dog and the all around community dog. The German Shepherd is defined by their vitality and nobility: these dogs are fearless, confident and outgoing. German Shepherd dogs were originally bred to be medium size dogs, but then people started to use them as guard dogs they were then to be bred to be progressively larger. Most male German Shepherd's are about  24-26 inches at the withers and the female German Shepherds are about 2 inches smaller than the male and the normal weight for this kind of breed is 66-88 pounds (30-40kg) but some German Shepherds only weigh 70 pounds and that is for females and the males can go up to 75 pounds. The adult height is usually reached by 10-18 months of age but will continue to "fill out" until they about three years of age. The German shepherd is also good for outside stuff like jogging, walking, running and their are allot more other things they can do.

Feeding Your German shepherd
Nutrition is one of the most important aspects of raising a healthy German shepherd.  When a puppy reaches 2 months of age they should be fed dog food.  This means this is their important phrase of growth. This is not a time to overfeed your puppy.  Overfeeding your German Shepherd at this time can lead to skeletal defects such as osteochondrosis and hip dysphasia.  Puppy's should be fed growth diets until thy are 12-18 months old.  Then only feed them twice a day.  Remember they need balance in their diets.

Health
keeping your German Shepherd healthy requires preventive health care this is not the only most effective, but is the least expensive way to battle illness.  Brushing your German Shepherd's teeth will keep the amount of tarter build up minimum.  This will be very easy if your dog is cooperative.  You should always take your dog to the veterinarian to prevent health care problems and so  your dog can live a longer and happier life.

     Medical problems
your puppies vaccination schedule should begin at six to eight weeks of age and continue until 14 to 16 weeks of age.  The one problem veterinarians find frusraighting  is dealing with aural lick dermatitis, this is caused by a dog licking increasingly at a spot on its leg the veterinarians don't know why dogs do this.  German shepherds are one of the common breeds to be affected with this disorder and males are affected twice as much as females.  from head to paws your German Shepard should be checked over by you at least once a week.
