Home Basic Tools Blending Options

Now that you know the basics, it’s time to put that knowledge to work. These are some simple but effective images.

Plasma Swirl

The first tutorial is very easy and will show you how to make something like this….

1.Open a new document. Make it 800 x 600 pixels and fill the background with black.

 2.Next go to filter>render>lens flare

3.Make the brightness around 100 and put the lens type on 50-300mm zoom

 4. Now go to filter>liquefy

 5. Just click and drag your mouse until you are satisfied. If you want to start over click cancel and go back to filter>liquefy

 6. This is what I have so far…

 7. Now since that color is really boring so we are going to add a little color to it. So hit ctrl on your keyboard to bring up the hue/saturation box.

 8. Now I’ve always enjoyed a nice vivid blue so that’s what I’m making mine.

9. That’s it! Here is my final result…

Plasma Rays

This tutorial will show you how to make something like this…

1.     First make a new document, whatever size you prefer and fill the background with black.

2.     Select the line tool and change the weight to 3px. Draw a straight line across the middle of the canvas. To make the line perfectly straight hold in shift while drawing it.

3.     Right click on your line layer and duplicate it 5 times.

4.     Now liquify each layer. When you are done merge all the layers tighter by clicking on them one at a time and pressing ctrl E. Do not merge the background.

5.     Lastly go to blending options and add an outer glow to the rays and….done. Here is what I got…

Liquid Metal

This tutorial will show you how to make something like this….

1.     First make a new document whatever size you prefer. Make sure that the background is set to transparent.

2.     Now press D to reset your colors.

3.     Select the gradient tool. (Right click on the paint bucket tool) choose difference from the style menu. Now go crazy with it all over the canvas. This is what I have…

4.     Now go to filter>distort>polar coordinates and choose polar to rectangular.

5.     Ok we are almost done. Go to filter>distort>wave and mess around with the setting until you find something you like but for best results put both scales sliders on 1 and the numbers of generators around 700. Lastly put the undefined areas on wrap around.

6.     Now it looks kind of …blah. So let’s add some color. Hit ctrl U to bring up the hue/saturation box window.

7.     Make sure the colorize box is checked and mess around with the hue and saturation until you find something you like.

8.     Anyway I’ve always enjoyed a nice blue. So here is my final result

9.     As and additional step you can duplicate the background layer and put the duplicated layer on overlay mode. It makes the color look a lot better.
