On December 17, 1903, Orville Wright made history by flying 120 feet at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The Wright Flyer flew for only twelve seconds and rose only about 15 fell off the ground, but made history as the first aircraft able to take off, fly, and land. |

On November 30, 1907, Glen Curtiss formed the Curtiss Motor Vehicle Company. It was the first U.S. airplane company. Geln Curtiss won the world's first international air show in France setting a world speed record of 47 mile per hour in 1909. |

On May 7, 1937 the Lockheed XC-35 made history as the first aircraft with a pressurized cabin to fly. The pressurized cabin allowed the plane to fly at higher altitudes. The aircraft won the 1937 Collier Trophy and averaged 350 miles per hour on a flight from Chicago to Wasington. |

On August 28, 1940, the Caproni-Camproni N.1 became one of the first jet powered airplanes to fly. The aircraft's top speed was 233 miles per hour. |

The largest Flying boat ever built at the time, the Hughes Flying Boat, also know as the "Spruce Goose"' had its first and only flight on November 2, 1947, flying only one mile. It was made entirely out of wood. The plane is famous for its developer, Howard Hughes. |
