| Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on March 2, 1904, in Springfield, Massachusetts. His parents are Theodor Robert Geisel and Henrietta Seuss Geisel. Ted loved to draw and was said to always have a pencil in his hand. |

He always admired the comic pages in the newspaper and his favorite would definitely be the “Krazy Kat.” Theodor also liked inventing things with his dad. Most of his inventions eventually made it into many of his future books. Unbelievably, Ted spoke German before he spoke English. This is due to his German heritage.

Theodor Seuss Geisel attended Central High School in Springfield. He then graduated in June of 1921. After high school, he went on to Dartmouth University for college. He liked his courses in English and what else, German. The Jacko was the college’s humor magazine and Ted wrote for it. Ted worked for the Saturday Evening Post as a cartoonist until he eventually wrote the books we know him for now.

| Dr. Seuss wrote his first book in 1937. He titled it “And to think I saw it on Mullberry Street” because of one of the streets he used to live near. His most popular books are made into movies such as the Cat in the Hat and the Grinch who stole Christmas. |
