Great Danes

 

The Great Dane is said to come from a large European dog called the boarhound. The exact place where the Great Dane originated is unknown but the first registered ones were in England and Germany. The purebred Great Dane started to show up a lot in England during the middle of the 19th century. They were used a lot as show dogs.

 

 

Great Danes are very large dogs the average weight for male Great Danes is 130 pounds. The average weight for female Great Danes is 120 pounds. They usually are 30 inches in height. Great Danes come in a variety of colors, many come in fawn, black and gray.

 
 

Great Dane’s health is very important. Like most dogs, Great Danes usually have an age span of about 10 years. One very important medical concern for Great Danes is deafness most owners of Great Danes are told to get their dogs tested when they first get them. Other medical problems common in Great Danes are color blindness, elbow dysplasia, hip dysplasia, acne, and hypertrophic osteodystrophy.

 
 

Great Danes can be fun to get as a household pet, but you must remember that they get very big. Like most dogs, the Great Dane can leave its mother at the age of eight weeks.  The Great Dane will need lots of space because it is one of the largest breeds of dogs. They need many visits to the veterinarian. Great Danes will also need lots of toys and a very large crate to grow into. Great Danes can make a great pet.
