The exact
origin of the Golden Retriever is unknown but they are said to first be
found in Britain in the middle of the 19th century. The first registered
Golden was in England during the year 1903. Later, in 1932 the American
Kennel Club finally recognized the Golden but it was considered a “rare
breed” at that time. The Golden Retriever is said to first come from
crosses
between settlers, Newfoundlands, and water spaniels. Over the years, the Golden
Retriever has become one of the most popular dogs.
Golden
Retrievers come in different shades and sizes, but overall most Goldens
are alike in many ways. The shades of Goldens vary from red to
blonde.
The average weight for females is sixty pounds. The average weight
for male Goldens is around sixty-five to seventy pounds.
Golden
Retrievers must be healthy, if they are not they won’t be as fun and
friendly
as they should be. The usual age span for a Golden Retriever is around ten
years. One of the most common medical problems for Golden Retrievers
is hip dysplas, which is a developmental problem of the hip
joint.
Other common health problems in Golden Retrievers are hypothyroidism, elbow
dysplasia, and cataracts.
Anyone can
get a Golden Retriever as long as it gets good care. Most Goldens are
allowed to leave their mother at the age of eight weeks. They must go to
the
veterinarian almost every other week when they are puppies. They also
must get
many tests and vaccinations. When you first get a Golden you must
get them
lots of toys and a large sized crate because they grow a lot. So consider
getting a Golden Retriever.
