Here are a few of some of the famous golfers and what they did to change the world of golf.  People have picked up the game of golf because of these outstanding players.

Walter Hagen played golf in the early 1900’s.  He made professional golf what it is today.  Professional golfers were not allowed in the locker rooms at the elite country clubs.  Mr. Hagen helped change that and professional golfers were treated with respect.

Ben Hogan in his golfing career won 63 times.  He is one of the greatest golfers ever to play golf.  During his golf career he overcame many hard times and continued to win.  Hogan is the only person to win three professional grand slam events in one year.

Bobby Jones is the most successful amateur and possibly the greatest of all.  In 1926 he was the first player to win the U.S. and British Open the only one to win all four majors in the same year, before retiring at the age of 28.

Arnold Palmer has a tremendous golf record with sixty-one victories on the U.S. PGA Tour.  He is best known for his caring, thoughtful, personality towards his fans.  His fans are known as “Arnie’s Army.”  Today Arnold Palmer has designed golf courses all over. 

Jack Nicklaus role model was Bobby Jones.  Having many victories including winning 18 majors he is considered the greatest golfer in his era.  He and Arnold Palmer dominated the world of golf in the 1960’s.

Tiger Woods is the number one professional golfer today.  He started his pro tour in 1996.  Since then he won 45 PGA Tournaments.  Tiger was the first ever to hold all four professional majors at the same time. 

Babe Didrikson was the pioneer of women’s golf.  She was a talented athlete.  After playing semi-professional basketball, winning medals in the Olympic for Track and Field in the 1940’s and 1950’s winning every woman’s golf title.  She helped found the Ladies Professional Golf Association.

Nancy Lopez made woman’s golf very popular.  Just in her second year of professional golf.  She won 9 tournaments.  Nancy is the youngest person ever admitted in the Hall of Fame.

Annika Sorenstam is one of the longest and most accurate hitters on Tour today.  People consider her the best female golfer ever.  She set 30 LPGA records in 2001and she was the second player to win two Tournaments in 2002.
