To play golf you need the right equipment and know how and when to use it.  Lets start with an important piece of the game, the clubs.  There are two groups of golf clubs.  The woods are the clubs that make the ball go long distances.  They have a longer shaft and least degree of loft with a bigger club face.

Irons are used for more accurate shots.  They are shorter than woods and the club head is smaller with more loft.  Irons start with a 3 iron and go to a 9 iron.  The higher the club number the longer the ball will go when hit properly.  The lower the club numbers and pitching wedge is used closer to the greens.  Another iron is the sand wedge.  This is used mostly to get the ball out of the sand traps.

 The putter is the club used on the green to putt the ball in the hole.  There are many different types of putters.

For the game of golf you will need a special kind of shoe.  A shoe with short plastic (soft) or steel spikes on the bottom keep your feet from slipping on the grass while swinging.  You can also wear gym shoes but if the tread is worn do not use them.  These special shoes are important when you are on the greens because regular tennis shoes make imprints in the grass, but these don’t.

There are many different kinds of golf balls.  Some are for ladies and some are for men.  One has to decide which ball they like best.   It is best to mark your ball if you are playing in groups so you can tell who’s ball is who’s.  You might also want to have extra balls if you lose the ball.  Some of the brand names are Titleist, Top Flight, Ram Tour, Max Fli, Pinnacle, Precept, and many more.
