The Terrible Towel

The Terrible towel was created by Myron Cope, a broadcaster for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He wanted a way to excite the fans during a 1975 playoff game against the Baltimore Colts. Myron told fans to take yellow dish towels to the game and wave them in the air. Anyways, the stands filled with yellow dish towels that day. And the Steelers always seemed to have great plays while the towels where waving. The the Steelers introduced yellow towels with the words" Myron Cope's official Terrible Towel" just in time for Super bowl ten. Many fans are still waving "The Terrible Towel" today.

  The Immaculate Reception

In 1972 the Steelers appeared in the playoffs again. Pittsburgh trailed the Oakland Raiders in the AFC championship game, with only twenty-two seconds left. The score was 7-6 and the Steelers are on fourth and ten on their own forty yard line. At that time, Art Rooney, the owner of the Steelers, headed down to the locker room to congratulate his team on such a great season. Art Rooney missed one of the craziest  finish in NFL history. On that play Bradshaw dropped back, and threw the football to one of his receivers, a Raider defender deflected the ball out of the receivers hands. And the football was still airborne heading back to the Steelers offensive line. What the Raiders didn't know was that when the ball was dropping Franco Harris, a half back for the Steelers, made a shoe string catch and ran to the end zone for the touchdown. The play was ruled a touchdown and the Steelers won that game 13-7.
