Pitching

The pitcher mound is in the center of the infield. There is a rectangle piece of rubber in the middle of the mound that the pitcher has one of his foots on the rubber when he pitches the ball. The pitchers goal is to strike the batter out. It takes 3 strikes to strike the batter out.

For it to be called a strike the ball has to thrown from the batters knees to shoulder and it has to be over the plate. Mean while when the pitcher has to pay attention to what the people on base are doing because they could steel a base when the pitcher is pitching. The runners want to advances to the next base so they try to do that when the pitcher is pitching.

Catcher

A catcher squats behind the batter and behind the plate. He has to wear a lot of protection so he does not get hurt. His main job is catch the ball the pitcher pitches to him. I talked about runners trying to steel a base earlier well if a runner tries to steel than the catcher try to throw the ball and get him out.

The catcher also has hand signals to the pitcher tell him what kind of ball to through. Catching is a very tire sum job. Squatting and having a lot of Equipment makes you really hot in the summer.

Infield

In the infield there are six positions including the pitcher and the catcher. The other four are First base, second base, short stop, and third base. A first baseman has to be flexible so he can keep one foot on the bag and reach out to catch the ball.

Second base and short stop are one of the most important players on the field they have work together to turn double plays. They call third base the hot corner because many hard line drive and hard ground balls come that way.

Outfield

There are three outfielder left field center field and right field. To play out field you have to be fast there because you have to cover a lot of ground in the out field. You would probably make many dives to try to catch the ball.

If they make a mistake and let the ball get past them the runner usually get many extra bases and even get to score some times. Out field is a very hard position to play and it is very important but the game could not be played with out any of them.
