Breeds Of Cats

  It is believed that the Siamese cat originated in the Khorat province in what is now Thailand.  There are four  varieties of the Siamese breed of cat.  The four varieties include blue point, chocolate point, lilac pint and seal point.
  The Persian is one of the most plentiful of all pedigree cats.  The Persian was introduced to Europe by an Italian named Pietro Della Valle.  The Persians are divided into seven categories, solid , tabby, shaded, smoke, particolor, bicolor, and finally point. Each group has many different variations of color.
  The Burmese cat first arrived in the United States  in 1930 in the company of a sailor.  The cats name was Wong Mau.  Wong was sold to a doctor named Joseph Thompson who later discovered the new breed had a Siamese background. The Burmese varieties are blue, champagne, platinum, and sable.
  The British Shorthair's ancestors were brought to Northern Europe and then to Great Britain by Roman soldiers about two thousand years ago.  these cats were commonly called mongrel or street cats which allowed them to breed freely.  The colors of this breed are particolors, smokes ,solids, and tabbies.
  According to legend, the Birman- or sacred Cat of Burma- was honored in its native land because people there believed that the souls of the departed priests returned to their temples in the form of these beautiful cats.  The Birman colors include blue point, chocolate point, lilac point and seal point.
  The American Wirehair grew out of a mutation.  The first kitten of this type appeared in a litter of barn cats.  One of the six in the litter had a red-and-white curly coat.  The colors of the American Wirehair are particolor, shaded, smoke, and solid.
