*The following applies to beginners starting on two skis*

Signals

Before you start, you need to talk to your driver and your spotter about signals. You need to make signals so you, your spotter and your driver can all communicate while you’re skiing. You should make signals for speed up, slow down, stop, etc.

Gearing up

Before you ski make sure you have the necessary objects. First, you need a life jacket for a flotation device and for safety reasons. Next you need skis, a towrope, and a boat. Lastly make sure you have a spotter and a experienced driver in the boat at all times. Also, you may want to get ski gloves to get a good grip on the handle and so the handle won’t hurt your hands. You also want a wet suit depending on the water temperature.

Getting up

When you’re in the water put both skis on. Once you’ve got them on, get a good grip on the handle. Stay in a ball position with your arms around your knees and tips of the skis out of the water. Then say “Go Boat” or give your signal to start. Once you feel the tug on the rope wait 1-3 seconds and then stand up. Once you’re up, keep your legs close together and slightly bent.

Going out of the wake

One thing that’s a little hard to do but fun is going out of the wake. When a boat starts up you’ll be inside a set of waves, those waves are called the wake. When you go in and out of the wake keep your ski’s close together and bend your knee’s. Also, make sure your skis are slanted towards the way you’re going.

Going over waves

Going over waves can be tricky. Once you get experienced you might want to start doing jumps and tricks off the waves. Now, just your legs about an inch or two apart and bend you knee's (a little more than an upright sitting position).

Letting go or falling

When you fall down don’t get discouraged to try again. But, if you did get up and you’re getting tired, make sure you give your spotter your signal for letting go and then let go. While your boat’s turning around, stick one of your skis in the air so boats will see you.
