How skiing got started

Water skiing got started in 1922. Ralph Samuelson decided if you could ski on snow you could ski on water. So, 18-year-old Ralph finally got up on ski’s in Lake City, Minnesota. It took him many attempts but he finally got up. Then, he went around the U.S. and performed a dare devil show. But as the sport became more popular, water skiing started becoming more common and then they started water skiing competitions.

When you’re ready to ski, make sure you choose your driver carefully. Make sure the driver has their boater’s license and can drive according to your standards and abilities. Before you start talk to your driver thoroughly about signals and the course you’re about to take on.

Choosing skis

When you are in a store choosing skis you have to make sure you get the right kind. First, check the skis for height/weight abstrictions. Also check to make sure the boot will fit your foot.  Next, come skis may be based on skiing levels such as beginner intermediate, and advanced, make sure you choose the level that is best for you. Lastly, look at the type of skis you’re getting. Do you want regular skis, one ski, trick skis, or jumping skis?

Being patient and practicing

At first, when you try and water ski you may not be great or you may not even get up. But every time you try you get closer and once you know it you’ll be up. After you’re up, no matter how good you are, keep practicing and making goals for yourself t achieve. With a sport as fun as water skiing, you’ll love learning new tricks and getting better everyday.

Places to water ski

When you get skis and you’re ready to try water skiing you have to pick somewhere to try. At first you may want to try in a place where not to many people will be. I recommend on any river or lake that’s not very crowded. But once you’re really good at it you’ll want to try on courses, ramps and other places reserved fro practicing and competing.

AWSA

The American Water Ski Association is the club you have to join before you competing. There’s eight different divisions based upon age. Then, there is three different parts of the competition: slalom, jump, and trick. Knee boarders and wake boarders compete in similar competitions as the water skiing ones.
