Bill Mazeroski is widely considered the greatest second basemen of all time.  He was a so-so hitter, but he could catch anything.  His nine Gold Gloves is the most of any second basemen.  He was the hero of the 1960 World Series.  He hit a homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning of game seven to win the series.

Willie Stargell is probably the third best player in Pirates history.  He started what is known as the family.  In 1979, We are Family was a hit song and they played it to pump themselves up.  He would also hand out stars to the players whenever they would do well or make a good play.  They won the World Series that year, thanks to “Pops”.  1979 Was also the year that Willie Stargell was named co-MVP of the National League.
Hans “Honus” Wagner was the Pirates greatest shortstop ever and he was the best player of his time.  “The Flying Dutchman” led the Pirates to the 1909 World Series where a baseball myth was created.  Ty Cobb who was the meanest player at the time slid into Honus Wagner and spiked him in the hand.  The Pirates won that World Series.  Honus is now second all time in triples.
The Waners were the power of the Pirates during the twenties and thirties.  Paul was nicknamed "Big Poison", and that means that Lloyd was nicknamed "Little Poison".  They were the greatest brother act to ever grace the game.  They both started their careers with a bang, both hitting over .330.  Lloyd was able to run groundouts into singles while Paul was a little more powerful.
Roberto Clemente is probably the greatest baseball player ever.  He is in the top five of every major offensive category for the Pirates.  He grew up in Puerto Rico playing with tomato cans, then he went to Montreal for the minors, then he played for the Pirates for the rest of his career.  He was able to throw a strike to home plate from right field.  He had a few 200 hit seasons and he could hit any ball pitched anywhere near him.  He finished his career with 3,000 hits.  In 1966, he became the MVP of the National League.
