fielders

Jason Bay is the best Pirate playing right now.  He is the only player that is batting anywhere near .300.  As of September 14, he is batting at an even .300 and he is on pace to hit over 30 home runs.  Last year, he was the Rookie of the Year and he was the only Pirate to get that award in a very long time.  I predict that he will become a perennial All Star and possibly hitting 300 home runs.

The younger Pirates are the ones that contribute the most to the few wins that they have.  Brad Eldred had two game winning hits and one was a homerun.  Chris Duffy has also had a game winning hit and he made Sportcenter’s Top Ten Plays a few times.  Freddy Sanchez and Jose Castillo are two players that are great fielders and consistent hitters.  Last year, Craig Wilson led the Pirates in homeruns.

Jack Wilson is the defensive specialist for the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Every year, he makes a play that sticks in your mind for a very long time.  For instance, last year, he made a fast-reaction, jumping catch at which Bob Walk (the Pirates color commentator) nicknamed him Jack Flash.  This year, he dove for the ball, tossed it to Freddy Sanchez, and got the runner out at first.  Usually, he makes many double plays. He almost always leads the league.  He also got 200 hits last year.

Rob Mackowiak is the Pirates utility player.  He plays second base, third base, left field, and everything else in between.  He is a very consistent hitter (he had 100 hits for the second straight season).  He is likely to hit a line drive going around first base or third base.
