SPINS

Another thing that is popular in figure skating is spinning.  When you spin, you go into a certain position and stay there without traveling across the ice.  When you do a spin correctly it is centered.  However, if it is done incorrectly it either travels across the ice too far or it is short revolutions.

Spins are judged on technique, position, and the number of revolutions.  A revolution is turning around 360 degrees.  Depending on your level, there us a minimum number of revolutions required for each type of spin.  Also, skaters spin much faster than dancers.  Therefore, they cannot use the spotting technique used in dancing.  Spotting in figure skating has the chance of making the skater very dizzy.  And after a certain amount of years of training, skaters get used to spinning and do not get dizzy as easily.Spinning in one position is not the only thing you can do.  You can change the position of our feet without changing the direction of the spin. You can also do various positions to make you spin more interesting.  Another type of spin is a flying spin.  A flying spin is when you go in the air in a position and the landing in a spinning position.
