One of the things you
can do in figure skating is jumping. Jumping is when you take off
by picking or going on an edge, then jump vertically but still covering
the ice by moving slightly outward and finally by landing on one leg and
enter a landing position. |

There are different
types of jumps in figure skating. The first kind is edge jumps which
includes the axel (invented by Axel Paulsen), the salchow (invented by
Ulrich Salchow), and the loop jump. The second way of jumping is
picking jumps. This includes the toe-loop, the flip (not a back flip or
front flip if that is what you are thinking), and the lutz. |

Jumping is what
the first thing that comes to a persons mind when someone says that they
can skate. The question is usually something like, “You figure skate!
Can you do those jumpy turny things in the air?” Why do you think they
ask this? It is because jumping is usually what the judges will mainly
judge you on. You get points if you land a jump and you loose points if
you fall on a jump. |
