HISTORY OF FIGURE SKATING
No one knows who the first person was to try and glide across a patch of ice.  What we do know is that a pair of primitive skates was found at the bottom of a Swiss lake.  Scientists calculated that they were made around 3000 B.C

The Greeks and the Romans developed many things.  But don’t be fooled because the Greeks and the Romans didn’t know anything about figure skating, or skating on ice at all.  It was the people who lived up north who were the people who invented the sport and art of skating.  In figure skating, it is very common to start or join one of the clubs.  The first figure skating club was founded on December 21, 1849.  However, the very first figure skating club was founded in Switzerland around 1700..

As you see skating today, it is in indoor ice arenas so the figure skating season can continue year round.  Before the first full sized rink, you had to skate outside during the winter.  The first full sized rink was made in 1876.  Figure skating is a very popular winter Olympic sport.  Skating became a sport in the Winter Olympics in 1908.
