As with offense, defense is played as a tam and one-on-one. When you’re defending against an attacker who has the ball, you must be sure the rest of the defensive team is covering the other attackers to prevent the player with the ball to have a passing option. |

If you know your teammates are to cover the other players then you also know that the player with the ball will have trouble finding someone to pass to. That makes all your defensive efforts more effective and puts the ball under pressure. |

| Of course if your teammates don’t mark or get lazy and you’re the only one covering it makes it more difficult to stop them. One defender can’t stop every pass. Most of the time the person with the ball has the advantage over you. However you as a defender must take the initiative and make the player react to you and do what you want. As a defender you must think and act as if you are in control of the game. The first thing you should do as a defender is run as fast as you can towards the dribbler to not allow him to look up and find a pass. |

But don’t commit yourself unless you have a clean shot at the ball. As you come in take a tackle and pretend to go to the ball so the attacker will react sooner than he would of.
