Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in America.  It started back with Native American Indian tribes.  The Native Americans called it Baggataway.  They used curved wooden sticks with a net in the center.  Then they would make a ball out of animal fat.  They would play this game to practice for war or to settle disputes.

    Present day lacrosse is much, much different.  Lacrosse is a very fast paced sport.  Each team tries to get a small ball in their opponents net.  At the end of the game the team with the most points wins.  Lacrosse is a lot like hockey because you use sticks and goals both in hockey and lacrosse.  Players catch, pass, carry, and shoot the ball.  They shoot the ball using a long stick called a crosse.  The stick has a handle and a netted head.  The head is used for catching, passing, and shooting.  There are three main positions in lacrosse, attack, midfield, and defense.  During the game there is 1 referee, a field judge, and an ump.  They keep watch of the game and call penalties.  There is some equipment you need to play the game of lacrosse.  Three of the main things you need is a helmet, shoulder pad, and gloves.  Rib pad and arm guards are optional.  There are also different sticks you can choose from.
